Defending our children

Good old Ashcroft: "The Justice Department will defend the ability of our nation's children to pledge allegiance to the American flag."

Because any sentence containing the word "defend" and "children" is automatically true, right?

Information on the origins of the Pledge may prove enlightening.

No time to go into detail on this, but a Yahoo news article summarizes the intellectual depth of the arguments in favor of keeping the "under God" clause:

President Bush found the ruling "ridiculous," and Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D., branded it "just nuts."

Mighty compelling arguments, I must say.
