Driving wisdom

Why is it, I remarked to myself one day not long ago as I was driving from somewhere or other to somewhere or other else, Why is it that all the attractive drivers I encounter are never going the same speed I am? They are inevitably going a few miles an hour faster than I, and I watch them zip past, and consider speeding up to catch up with them, but realize that I am already driving as fast as I am comfortable with; or else they are going a few miles an hour slower than I, and I wonder that someone so attractive could be such a slowpoke, and I attempt to lag back but the large truck behind me starts laying on the horn, and in the end I give up and proceed at my normal pace.

The answer occurred to me almost immediately; of course I never encounter anyone who is travelling at the same speed as I, because unless we depart from the same place at the same time, we are doomed to be eternally a few seconds apart, never meeting. Unless, of course, they are traveling at right angles to me, in which case a horrible collision may ensue.

And this, it seems to me, is why, on the freeway of life, one so rarely encounters someone who is traveling at just exactly one's own speed and in just exactly one's own direction.
