New fiction editor
17 June 2003, 12:41 AM
The Strange Horizons fiction department is pleased to announce that a new editor is joining us: Karen Meisner.
The selection process was a long one: it took us nearly six weeks to decide among the 17 candidates. It was great to see so many interested and interesting applicants; thanks to all who applied!
Karen is currently traveling in Israel and Sweden, so she won't be officially starting until sometime next week. In the meantime, if you want to take a look at a photo of her extremely cute son, The Mighty Tot, or read entertaining conversations between her and her husband Pär, I direct your attention to the remaining partial archives of her former online journal, "Thought Experiment."
Um. That paragraph kind of got away from me. What I meant to say was this:
Welcome aboard, Karen!

Congrats to Karen, and a big sigh of relief must be in order for you and Susan. Great news!

Anyone who can write something like this —
— or this —— is okay in my book.

Excellent choice!

Excellent! Now, can you tell us what sort of bribe she likes best? Cash? Chocolate? Kittens?

Good question, Hannah. But I'm distressed that nobody ever asked what sort of bribe Susan and I like best. Does this mean Karen gets more bribes just 'cause she's new? That seems unfair to me.

I just figured both of you had too much integrity to even answer a question like that, and I’d have to be more subtle about it.

No, no, not that at all. We've all asked around -- of course we have! The problem is figuring out how to make it work as an e-mail attachment. Must make sure you know which story the bribe is for after all.
Yeah, that's it.

Naturally, I have too much integrity as well, and cannot be bribed. I will mention just by the way that I enjoy both chocolate and cash. Kittens, not so much, unless we're talking poker?
