Vanity publishing, self-publishing, etc

Just finally read a piece from Making Light, posted back in July, about PublishAmerica and related business models. The piece itself is informative and interesting, but even more so is the very extensive commentary/discussion, which continues to the present day, largely between James D. Macdonald and an author of a low-carb dessert cookbook, with additional commentary by Teresa, Patrick, and others with extensive publishing-industry experience. There's a lot there, and I skimmed through a fair bit of it, but if you're interested in the ins and outs of how all this stuff works, it's well worth taking a look.

Thanks for the pointer, Nick!
