R.I.P., Jim Baen

I knew Jim Baen had had a stroke a couple of weeks ago, but I hadn't known until just now that he died on June 28.
There's a good obituary by David Drake over at Jim Baen's Universe, the new online magazine.
(And by the way, the first issue of that magazine was apparently published a month ago, featuring stories by Alan Dean Foster, Gregory Benford, Charles Stross, Jo Walton, and others. I'm glad Baen got to see that first issue appear before he died.)
The book that Drake mentions at the end of the obit, The World Turned Upside Down, is apparently a big anthology of about 30 classic science fiction stories, put together by Baen and Drake and Eric Flint; the selection criterion was "those stories which had the most impact on [the editors] as teenagers and got [them] interested in science fiction in the first place."
