Day One

On the first day of 2007, our authors gave to us: 33 valid submissions, 2 email submissions formatted in HTML (which we bounced with a request to use our submission form instead, to automatically get valid formatting), and a second copy of a story that had previously been submitted to us and rejected.

That 33, btw, ties the all-time record number of submissions we've received in a single day; the other time that happened was three years ago, on January 1, 2004.

I didn't reopen the submission form until midnight California time, even though our submission day goes by US Eastern time; sorry to have cheated y'all of three hours of perfectly good submission period. As it turned out, nobody submitted 'til 7:30 a.m. California time. But after that, volume was pretty steady all day.
