Locked out

You know what sucks?

Getting back to your hotel room at 5 am only to find that your keycard no longer works.

And then being told by the desk clerk that she can't do anything about it.

Eventually she got me a new room so I could get some sleep, and when the maintenance guy gets here she'll have him open the room.

Of course, my toothbrush and earplugs and computer and everything else are in my room.

And I may have left a lamp on with a sweater draped over it. (I wasn't gone for long.)

Anyway. Time for me to try to sleep. But I'm really unhappy with the Springfield Howard Johnson right about now.

...and then being told by the desk clerk that she can't do anything about it? Pardon me?

Seriously, can I hit someone on your behalf?

Can't do anything about it? That's insane.

And then being told by the desk clerk that she can't do anything about it.

Er... without trying to be too sarcastic, what's she useful for if she can't solve that sort of problem?
Hope you can at least get some decent sleep.

That is really bizarre. Any time that has happened to me (and it has happened at least a handful of times), the desk clerk simply programs a new key card. Sort of like the way they do it when you first check in. Not so very difficult, really.
