Last night, I did work stuff 'til 9ish, then magazine stuff for a few hours, and then went to bed, congratulating myself on my cold/flu/whatever symptoms having gone away. I hadn't coughed or sniffled in several hours, and I figured it was over.
An hour later, I was still wide awake. Still no symptoms, just not at all sleepy or tired.
I was on the verge of deciding to get up and read for a while, when the cough suddenly came back. And wouldn't go away.
Eventually I had some codeine-laced cough syrup, and that knocked me out. Thank goodness for codeine.
But I think I ended up sleeping from about 5 a.m. to about 11 a.m. Given how early it gets dark these days, this just about completes my transition to being nocturnal. (Added later: I realize that many or most of you live in more northerly climes than I, and are thus mocking me for complaining about it getting dark early here. But sunset just oughtn't to be at 5 p.m. It ain't right, it ain't natural.)
(Also added later: But at least the sleeping gave me the opportunity to have a dream in which I saw the new animated movie of Voyage of the Dawn Treader, possibly combined with The Silver Chair. Which was pretty good, what I saw of it while asleep. Here in the real world, the live-action Dawn Treader movie won't be out for a couple of years yet.)
Anyway. Still have three documents due tomorrow at work, plus lots of magazine stuff to do, so tonight's likely to be another late night if I can stay awake. But for now, I'm off to a dentist appointment.
