Some political and quasi-political items:

Award-winning journalist and Jed-acquaintance David S. Bernstein has been following the numbers on Republican Women in the U.S. House, and just today posted his totals: Year of the GOP Woman Results. The GOP House caucus remains 9/10 male, and of course the Dem House caucus (which is also pretty sad in that respect) shrunk quite a bit.

His conclusion is that The GOP's elected officials are and will be essentially 90% male for some years to come, because they are not building a bench of qualified women to move up. And, it turns out, jumping in to politics at the Senate or Governor level is not a really good path to elective office, as Ms. Fiorina or Ms. Whitman could tell you.

Thanks,
-V.
