Too many places for notes

Sometime in the past year or two, I was thinking about anthologies I'd like to edit, and I came up with a list of at least six anthology themes, maybe more. I wrote down all of those ideas, with notes about each, and thoughts about how to tie them together as a series, and so on.

Only problem: I have no idea where I wrote them down.

The most likely places would be the Mac application and iOS app called Notes, where I used to take all my notes, or Evernote, where I take all my notes now. But I've done a thorough search of both of those (including the Notes apps on iPhone and iPad as well as Mac, because they stopped syncing a while back), to no avail.

I've also searched my computer, and my draft blog entries, and my email, and Google Drive, and my unsaved BBEdit documents, and my old DEVONthink notes, and everywhere else I could think of. No dice.

Possibilities:

  • I dreamed the whole thing. I have clear memories of writing it down, but I've had clear memories before that turned out to be inaccurate.
  • I wrote it on paper. I almost never do that these days, so it seems really unlikely, but I suppose it's possible.
  • It failed to save for some reason. I think maybe Notes on iPhone doesn't save a note unless you tap the Done button before exiting the app? Not sure.
  • It somehow got deleted. But I've searched my backup files.

Anyway, I've now spent way more time on this than I spent creating the list in the first place, and I've run out of places to look, so I guess it's time to give up. On the plus side, I did finally find out how to rescue various notes from email that never got auto-ported to the Notes application when that came along, and I've found out how to port those same notes from email into Evernote, so it hasn't been a total waste of time. Still, disappointing.

I remember three of the themes, but there were at least three more (and I think more like nine more) that I can't think of. Ah, well. Maybe I'll remember them eventually, or maybe I'll think of others.
