Shabbos Frivolity: Doina si Joc de Marian

I’m not sure if I have ever mentioned Les Yeux Noirs on this blog. I’m not a huge fan of gypsy music particularly, and in a general sort of way the dark-eyed mix of gypsy and klezmer tends to irritate me as I listen for the klezmer bits and am distracted by the gypsy bits. Different people like different things, don’t you know.

I happened to be listening today to one of their tracks and was completely knocked out by the mad cimbalom of it. It’s called “Doina si Joc de Marian” and it will automatically start if you click through to the press kit link to it, or you can go to the Zig-Zag Territoires page for the album Tiganeasca to buy it direct from the publisher. A joyous romp for a springlike day (at least here in central CT).
