{"id":1044,"date":"2003-04-07T10:08:17","date_gmt":"2003-04-07T17:08:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2003\/04\/07\/1044.html"},"modified":"2003-04-07T10:08:17","modified_gmt":"2003-04-07T17:08:17","slug":"jack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2003\/04\/07\/jack\/","title":{"rendered":"Jack"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I gotta run off to work momentarily, but wanted to mention one thing: I read Connie Willis's story \"Jack\" back when it first came out, in <cite>Asimov's<\/cite> in 1991, and it didn't do much for me; probably because (a) I didn't recognize all of the obvious references to <cite>Dracula<\/cite> character names, and (b) I kept expecting it to be about Jack the Ripper, which it most definitely is <em>not.<\/em>  But as part of reading her collection <cite>Impossible Things,<\/cite> I just re-read it, and it's a really really good story.  And it gains a certain poignancy at the moment, as it's set in London during the Blitz.  Highly recommended.
