For those who don't know, he was a composer and arranger for TV and movies, best known for composing the theme music for <cite>Star Trek<\/cite>.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, he apparently wasn't treated very well by Roddenberry. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.snopes.com\/radiotv\/tv\/trek.asp\">Snopes has the story<\/a>: Roddenberry wrote lyrics to the <cite>Trek<\/cite> theme music, with no intention of ever using those lyrics, in order to be able to claim half the royalties on the song.<\/p>\n<p>The lyrics, as you might expect, aren't very good, but you can read them at the end of that Snopes article.<\/p>\n<p>I imagine all this is well known in <cite>Trek<\/cite> fandom, but I hadn't heard about it 'til now so I figured some of y'all might not have heard about it either.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alexander Courage died last month.
