{"id":11403,"date":"2008-08-26T10:23:24","date_gmt":"2008-08-26T17:23:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2008\/08\/26\/11403.html"},"modified":"2008-08-26T10:23:24","modified_gmt":"2008-08-26T17:23:24","slug":"arcologies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2008\/08\/26\/arcologies\/","title":{"rendered":"Arcologies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Three <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arcology\">arcology<\/a> designs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.inhabitat.com\/2008\/08\/25\/ziggurat-dubai-carbon-neutral-pyramid-will-house-1-million\/\">Ziggurat<\/a>: a carbon-neutral pyramid-shaped building in Dubai that would have a 2.3 sq. km footprint (at least, I assume that number is the area covered by the base) and would house 1.1 million people.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.inhabitat.com\/2007\/08\/20\/self-contained-tokyo-highrise-eco-city-x-seed-4000\/\">X-Seed 4000<\/a>: a sort of funnel-shaped building in Tokyo that would have a 6 sq. km footprint, would be 13,000 feet tall, and would house 500,000 to a million people.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tdrinc.com\/ultima.html\">Ultima Tower<\/a>: about 150 sq. km, 10,560 feet tall, housing a million people. Designed in 1991.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My impression is that none of these are actually intended to be built.
