{"id":1141,"date":"2003-05-15T09:10:38","date_gmt":"2003-05-15T16:10:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2003\/05\/15\/1141.html"},"modified":"2003-05-15T09:10:38","modified_gmt":"2003-05-15T16:10:38","slug":"mutants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2003\/05\/15\/mutants\/","title":{"rendered":"Mutants"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I'm still not going to write up my full comments on <cite>X2<\/cite> yet, but I've been meaning to post this link for a while: <cite><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sccs.swarthmore.edu\/org\/swil\/FILKS\/Old_format\/mutant_horror.txt\">The Rocky Horror Mutant Show<\/a>,<\/cite> by Alison Knapp  and Shoshanna Green.  Yes, it's a feature-length filk opera: full filks of (I think) every song from <cite><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/Title?0073629\">The Rocky Horror Picture Show<\/a>,<\/cite> used to re-tell the Phoenix saga from the <cite>X-Men<\/cite> comic book.  But it probably won't make any sense if you haven't already read that storyline in the comic book (and you probably won't enjoy it much if you haven't seen <cite>Rocky Horror<\/cite>).  And if you haven't read the comic, <cite>RHMS<\/cite> probably contains major major spoilers for the <em>next<\/em> X-Men movie, <cite>X3<\/cite> or whatever they're going to call it.<\/p>\n<p>But one thing I can say without spoilers is that I was always fond of Scott \"Cyclops\" Summers in the comic book; <cite>RHMS<\/cite> was my first contact with the idea that he was a total whiner.  Which is one of the reasons that I kept thinking of <cite>RHMS<\/cite> all through <cite>X2.<\/cite>  I don't like him much in the movies.<\/p>\n<p>The other reason I kept thinking of <cite>RHMS<\/cite> was a particular line that ran through my head every time a particular special effect made an appearance.  But I can't say more without spoilers, so I'll save that for my review.<\/p>\n<p>There's also a sequel to <cite>RHMS,<\/cite> titled <cite><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sccs.swarthmore.edu\/org\/swil\/FILKS\/Old_format\/mutant_horror_ii.txt\">Schlock Treatment<\/a>.<\/cite>  I haven't seen <cite><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/Title?0083067\">Shock Treatment<\/a><\/cite> (the <cite>Rocky Horror<\/cite> \"sequel\"), and the X-Men storyline covered in this sequel didn't interest me nearly as much as the Phoenix story, so <cite>Schlock Treatment<\/cite> doesn't work nearly as well for me.
