{"id":11432,"date":"2008-09-04T00:06:11","date_gmt":"2008-09-04T07:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2008\/09\/04\/11432.html"},"modified":"2008-09-04T00:06:11","modified_gmt":"2008-09-04T07:06:11","slug":"happy-birthday-strange-horizon-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2008\/09\/04\/happy-birthday-strange-horizon-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy birthday, Strange Horizons!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I just noticed that two days ago was the eighth anniversary of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strangehorizons.com\/2000\/20000901\/\">launch of <cite>Strange Horizons<\/cite><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Yay, us!<\/p>\n<p>I <em>think<\/em> that we're the longest-running online prozine ever. I'm not entirely certain how long <cite>Would That It Were<\/cite> ran, nor a couple of other relatively low-profile online magazines that paid pro rates. But I don't think any of them made it to eight years.<\/p>\n<p>(We're not the longest-running electronic magazine ever, nor even the longest-running one that publishes fiction; for example, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/DargonZine\">DargonZine<\/a> has been publishing online for nearly 25 years now. But they don't pay, which is why I said \"prozine\" up above.)<\/p>\n<p>We've also outlasted a fair number of small-press print magazines, though of course most of the really high-profile ones have lasted for decades.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, we're not doing anything exciting for the anniversary, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Congratulations to the staff, past and present (new material <em>every week<\/em> for eight years?
