{"id":11501,"date":"2008-10-02T09:21:04","date_gmt":"2008-10-02T16:21:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2008\/10\/02\/11501.html"},"modified":"2008-10-02T09:21:04","modified_gmt":"2008-10-02T16:21:04","slug":"palincouric-sketch-on-snl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2008\/10\/02\/palincouric-sketch-on-snl\/","title":{"rendered":"Palin\/Couric sketch on SNL"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Most of you who care have presumably seen the segment of Katie Couric's interview with Sarah Palin in which Palin explains <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/video\/watch\/?id=4478156n\">Russia's proximity to Alaska<\/a>, a bit that's been roundly mocked.<\/p>\n<p>By now, many of you have probably also seen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbc.com\/Saturday_Night_Live\/video\/clips\/couric-palin-open\/704042\/\"><cite>Saturday Night Live<\/cite>'s take on the interview<\/a>, with Amy Poehler (who often plays Hillary Clinton on <cite>SNL<\/cite>) as Couric, interviewing Tina Fey doing a dead-on Palin impression. Still, I figured some of you might have missed it.<\/p>\n<p>I'm not normally a big fan of mocking people. But I laughed out loud at this sketch, particularly this exchange (text below copied from a <a href=\"http:\/\/monroeanderson.newsvine.com\/_news\/2008\/09\/28\/1926516-palins-a-natural-for-comic-relief-on-snl\">transcript<\/a>, though you'll lose a lot of the humor if you read the whole transcript instead of watching the abovelinked clip):<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>POEHLER AS COURIC: \"You went to the UN for the first time. How was that experience?\"<\/p>\n<p>FEY AS PALIN: \"You know, it was just amazing. So many interesting people. Though I have to say, I was disheartened by how many of them were foreigners. I promise that when Senator McCain and I are elected, we're gonna get those jobs back in American hands.\"<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I have a whole lot more to say about Palin, much of which will be coming along in another post shortly.
