{"id":11722,"date":"2008-12-19T00:55:41","date_gmt":"2008-12-19T08:55:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2008\/12\/19\/11722.html"},"modified":"2008-12-19T00:55:41","modified_gmt":"2008-12-19T08:55:41","slug":"rip-majel-barrett-roddenberry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2008\/12\/19\/rip-majel-barrett-roddenberry\/","title":{"rendered":"R.I.P., Majel Barrett Roddenberry"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I'm sorry to see that Majel Barrett Roddenberry <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20081218\/ap_en_ot\/obit_roddenberry_1\">died of leukemia<\/a> this morning, age 76.<\/p>\n<p>Memory Alpha's <a href=\"http:\/\/memory-alpha.org\/en\/wiki\/Majel_Barrett\">entry<\/a> says that she was \"the only performer to have had a role on all of the <cite>Star Trek<\/cite> series\": as Number One in the original series pilot, as the voice of the <cite>Enterprise<\/cite> computer in many contexts, as Lwaxana Troi, and as various other characters.<\/p>\n<p>She's reprising the ship's-computer-voice role for the new <cite>Trek<\/cite> movie; the abovelinked article says she completed recording for that a couple weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>She also (I don't remember whether I knew this) played the widow of the Centauri emperor in <cite>Babylon 5<\/cite>. Plus a character in the animated <cite>Spider-Man<\/cite> TV series in the mid-'90s, plus many other roles in other shows and movies.<\/p>\n<p>And she was executive producer of <cite>Earth: Final Conflict<\/cite> and <cite>Andromeda<\/cite>.<\/p>\n<p>I think of her as one of the main people who kept <cite>Trek<\/cite> going all these years, but I don't know whether that's really true or not.
