{"id":11912,"date":"2009-02-28T02:07:32","date_gmt":"2009-02-28T10:07:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2009\/02\/28\/11912.html"},"modified":"2009-02-28T02:07:32","modified_gmt":"2009-02-28T10:07:32","slug":"hugo-deadline-imminent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2009\/02\/28\/hugo-deadline-imminent\/","title":{"rendered":"Hugo deadline imminent"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This year, I had it all planned out.<\/p>\n<p>My to-do list is full of tasks like \"post journal entry linking to Hugo recommendation sites\" (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nesfa.org\/recommends\/hugos08.html\">NESFA<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfawardswatch.com\/?page_id=6\">SF Awards Watch<\/a>), \"look at Feminist SF wiki lists\" (<a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.feministsf.net\/index.php?title=Women_eligible_for_2009_SF_Awards\">Women eligible for 2009 SF Awards<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.feministsf.net\/index.php?title=Works_by_Women_eligible_for_2009_SF_Awards\">Works by women eligible for 2009 SF Awards<\/a>), and \"read <a href=\"http:\/\/community.livejournal.com\/hugo_recommend\/\">LJ recommendation list<\/a>.\" All of those tasks had due dates of three weeks ago. I was supposed to decide who and what I was nominating two weeks ago, and submit the nomination form a week ago.  Oh, and several weeks ago, I was supposed to check on the list of <cite>SH<\/cite> authors <a href=\"http:\/\/www.writertopia.com\/awards\/campbell\">eligible for the Campbell Award<\/a> and make sure nobody got left off.<\/p>\n<p>I didn't do any of those things.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, here it is just under 22 hours before the Hugo and Campbell <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anticipationsf.ca\/pub\/hugos\/nominations.php\">nominating ballot<\/a> is due, and not only do I have no idea what I'm nominating, but I've got lots of stuff to do between now and the deadline. Like sleep, and attend Potlatch, and run a session of the writing workshop there, and clean my living room.<\/p>\n<p>So I'm once again gonna be frantically filling in the Hugo ballot at the last minute, despite the best of intentions.<\/p>\n<p>I apologize especially to the Campbell-eligible <cite>SH<\/cite> writers for not being on the ball about this. Even though the Campbell people asked me nicely, twice, to deal with it.<\/p>\n<p>My fancy new to-do list is very good at helping me list the things I have to do. But I still have to actually do them, and that's the hard part.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This year, I had it all planned out.
