{"id":12515,"date":"2009-11-06T21:18:49","date_gmt":"2009-11-07T05:18:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2009\/11\/06\/12515.html"},"modified":"2009-11-06T21:18:49","modified_gmt":"2009-11-07T05:18:49","slug":"two-brief-but-moving-soldier-s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2009\/11\/06\/two-brief-but-moving-soldier-s\/","title":{"rendered":"Two brief but moving soldier stories"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A month ago, my brother posted about his meeting a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.journalscape.com\/X_Zachary_Wright\/2009-10-07-13:57\">Samoan soldier returning home<\/a> to try to help out after the village where she grew up was destroyed by the tsunami and earthquake.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I came across a link to a video (unrelated to the above except thematically) involving <a href=\"http:\/\/andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com\/the_daily_dish\/2009\/11\/mental-health-break-5.html\">a soldier's unexpected return home<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>(Calling it that kind of spoils the surprise, but I think the video comes across as kind of ominous if you don't know that's what's happening.)<\/p>\n<p>Edited a few hours later to add: here's a news story providing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/local_news\/47001692.html\">more context<\/a> for that video. It happened back in June, when Air Force Master Sgt. Joseph Myers came home just in time for his daughter's last day of fourth grade.<\/p>\n<p>Here's a news clip with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2009\/06\/05\/master-sgt-joseph-myers-d_n_211765.html\">the same scene filmed from a different angle<\/a>. And another site has a slightly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/videos\/en\/?bctid=25329763001\">extended version<\/a> of the first video.
