So here's a quick rundown of recent items.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Twig asked me the other day about Dickens being paid by the word. I said, \"I don't know, but I bet Jon V would know,\" him being a Dickens scholar and all. So I asked him, and he said that it's such a common question that there's a web page about it: \"<a href=\"http:\/\/dickens.ucsc.edu\/faq\/bytheword.html\">Was Dickens really paid by the word?<\/a>\"<\/li>\n<li>Cheryl explores <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lambdaliterary.com\/trans\/02\/25\/is-there-or-should-there-be-such-a-thing-as-trans-lit\/\">Trans Lit<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zooborns.com\/zooborns\/2010\/02\/jaguar-cub-jordan-zoos-newest-joy-.html\">Jaguar cub<\/a> at ZooBorns. The first photo in particular is SUPER CUTE.<\/li>\n<li>T.A. Pratt's webserialized Marla Mason novel <cite><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marlamason.net\/mirrors\/\">Broken Mirrors<\/a><\/cite> launches this coming Saturday; he'll post a new chapter every week until it's done. Donate to receive nifty premiums!<\/li>\n<li>Interesting and complex discussion of the Constitutional consequences of the current <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/02\/28\/AR2010022803985.html\">gun-ownership case<\/a> facing the US Supreme Court.<\/li>\n<li>Delightful, fun, and apparently easy-to-make <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parenting.com\/activity-parties-gallery\/Activities-Parties\/30-Amazing-Birthday-Cake-Designs\/17\/\">squid birthday cake<\/a>. (Not to be confused with the much more complicated-looking but also nifty <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/gabe-tj\/2520253042\/\">other squid cake<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<li>Lovely photo of the arching trail of the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesonline.co.uk\/multimedia\/archive\/00681\/endeavour-arch_681986a.jpg\">Endeavour<\/a><\/i> taking off last month, on its penultimate flight.<\/li>\n<li>Speaking of which, here's a nifty Flash animation showing the <a href=\"http:\/\/i.usatoday.net\/tech\/graphics\/iss_timeline\/flash.htm\">International Space Station being assembled<\/a> over the past eleven years. I am amused that it features two Pressurized Mating Adapters.<\/li>\n<li>John E.
