They're looking for speculative stories &ldquo;that use the Ramayana in an essential and innovative way.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Their reading period, alas, lasts only a few more days; it ends on July 31. Time is of the essence!<\/p>\n<p>Of particular note in their guidelines are the links in the Resources section. I was especially intrigued by the discussion in the online <a href=\"http:\/\/publishing.cdlib.org\/ucpressebooks\/view?docId=ft3j49n8h7&chunk.id=d0e97\">introduction<\/a> to a book called <cite>Many Ramayanas: The Diversity of a Narrative Tradition in South Asia<\/cite>, edited by Paula Richman. Some neat stuff about multiplicity of versions of this story; also possibly relevant to discussions of multiplicity of versions of other stories. (Also, of immediate relevance to anyone considering submitting to the anthology, that intro includes a plot summary of the best-known version of the story.
