{"id":13465,"date":"2010-12-02T12:52:40","date_gmt":"2010-12-02T20:52:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2010\/12\/02\/13465.html"},"modified":"2010-12-02T12:52:40","modified_gmt":"2010-12-02T20:52:40","slug":"cheerful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2010\/12\/02\/cheerful\/","title":{"rendered":"Cheerful"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I have been unaccountably cheerful for no clear reason this morning.<\/p>\n<p>A few of the factors that might've contributed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n  <li>Still enjoying <cite>Cold Comfort Farm<\/cite> (the book) quite a bit (am about halfway through); it keeps making me laugh.<\/li>\n  <li>Pleasing political news&mdash;the DADT stuff I mentioned last entry, the Illinois civil unions stuff I haven't gotten around to posting about.<\/li>\n  <li>Singing &ldquo;Gaudeamus Hodie&rdquo; (which always makes me smile) in the shower and getting nice bass resonances.<\/li>\n  <li>Bougainvillea flowers outside my living room.<\/li>\n  <li>My lawn is looking really nice lately, thanks to Twig.<\/li>\n  <li>I keep being struck by the vivid orange and red and yellow leaves on trees around here. I don't think of us as normally getting fall colors, but maybe I just haven't paid enough attention in previous years, 'cause they're pretty nice.<\/li>\n  <li>After a few years of relative paucity of <cite>SH<\/cite> stories being reprinted, we're seeing five of them reprinted in the two Year's Bests whose contents have been announced so far.<\/li>\n  <li>Catchy music on the radio on the way to work. I suppose it is wrong of me to like Taylor Swift's songs as much as I do.<\/li>\n  <li>Tasty beets at lunch.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interestingly, I think the good mood came first, and the above items are just reinforcing it.<\/p>\n<p>I can imagine a day almost exactly like today in which I started out in a bad mood and either didn't notice the above items at all or saw them as tiny bright spots in an otherwise bad day. I got off to a late start again; the sky is gray and gloomy; there's too much on my to-do list.&nbsp;.&nbsp;.&nbsp;. There are all sorts of things that, if my mood were bad, I might use as evidence to myself that today is a Bad Day with some small bright spots.<\/p>\n<p>But looked at through the lens of a mysterious good mood, today appears to be a Good Day with some minor flaws.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have been unaccountably cheerful for no clear reason this morning.
