(I'm still unclear about when those columns get posted—they sometimes seem to appear online well before they appear in the print magazine.)

This time, Jim's talking about slipstream. He talks with Jeff VanderMeer and Rich Horton about what exactly the term means (as usual, there's not much agreement). He points to Fantastic Metropolis, and then he quotes Alan DeNiro's excellent essay "The Dream of the Unified Field." Then he goes on to quote editorials by Mary Anne and me, and points to some writers we've published: Aynjel Kaye, Ben Rosenbaum, Jenn Reese, Jay Lake, Tim Pratt, and Timons Esaias.

I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again: that Kelly guy is a class act. Not only is he an excellent writer, but he's been, and continues to be, incredibly supportive of new writers and new venues. I hereby reiterate my hope that when we all become Big Names we'll be as welcoming to newcomers.

The latest installment of Jim Kelly’s Asimov’s column On the Net is now available online at the Asimov’s site.
