I've seen a bunch of people say in the past couple of days that they're not eligible to vote in the Hugos.<\/p>\n
But there is a very easy way to become<\/em> eligible to vote in the Hugos: pay US $40 (or GB £25) to become a supporting member<\/a> of WorldCon. You can do this from anywhere in the world, from your computer.<\/p>\n If you do that, you will receive a copy of the Hugo Voter Packet<\/a>, which will almost certainly include electronic copies of most of the nominated works. The total value of the works included in the packet will be more than US $40. For example, the entire Wheel of Time<\/cite> series will be included<\/a>.<\/p>\n There are, of course, plenty of people who can't afford that $40 regardless of how much stuff they get for it. I'm not making an argument that it's the right price for a membership. All I'm saying is that there are a lot of people who think that it's impossible for them to participate in the Hugo process because they don't know how to go about doing so.<\/p>\n So please spread the word: if you can afford a $40 supporting membership, then you can help determine who wins this year's Hugo Awards. As a bonus, you also get to nominate for next year's awards, when the time comes for that.<\/p>\n
