{"id":1491,"date":"2003-10-09T10:58:31","date_gmt":"2003-10-09T17:58:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2003\/10\/09\/1491.html"},"modified":"2003-10-09T10:58:31","modified_gmt":"2003-10-09T17:58:31","slug":"new-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2003\/10\/09\/new-money\/","title":{"rendered":"New money"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Y'all know that the new <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2003\/10\/06\/pf\/debt\/new_20_here\/index.htm?cnn=yes\">peach-and-blue $20 bill<\/a> is now in circulation, yes?<\/p>\n<p>(I knew the new bills were coming, but I had no idea when, perhaps because I don't watch TV so I missed the ad campaign.)<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moneyfactory.com\/newmoney\/\">Bureau of Engraving and Printing web page<\/a> provides more details about the new bill's security features and such.<\/p>\n<p>CNN has a cute little <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2003\/05\/13\/pf\/banking\/currency_miscues\/\">article about money that failed<\/a> (I'm sad to see the Sacagawea dollar listed there&#8212;I certainly do my part to keep those in circulation), most notable for the note at the end about the \"technicolor\" $20 bill from the early 1900s, featuring George Washington's picture.  If this weren't a CNN article, I'd be inclined to think it was a hoax.<\/p>\n<p>I feel obliged, in connection with that last piece, to point to the classic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digiserve.com\/eescape\/closet\/silly\/2-at-Taco-Bell.html\">$2 bill at Taco Bell<\/a> story, which (along with Richard Aronson's entirely unrelated <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dreadgazebo.com\/eric.html\">Tale of Eric and the Dread Gazebo<\/a>) is one of my favorite Internet-circulated stories.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Y&#8217;all know that the new peach-and-blue $20 bill is now in circulation, yes?
