{"id":14964,"date":"2014-08-18T04:33:30","date_gmt":"2014-08-18T11:33:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2014\/08\/18\/14964.html"},"modified":"2014-08-18T04:33:30","modified_gmt":"2014-08-18T11:33:30","slug":"hugos-results-pro-artist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2014\/08\/18\/hugos-results-pro-artist\/","title":{"rendered":"Hugos results: Pro Artist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I have many thoughts about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loncon3.org\/\">outcome of the Hugos<\/a> (I'm overall very happy with the results, even though my favorites didn't win in some categories; I'm even happy to have been wrong about various things), and especially many thoughts about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loncon3.org\/hugos\/2014%20Hugo%20awards%20full%20details.pdf\">detailed numbers<\/a>. But for now just one note:<\/p>\n<p>As far as I can tell, last night Julie Dillon became the first woman to win a solo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfadb.com\/Hugo_Awards_Winners_By_Category#artist\">Hugo in the Pro Artist category<\/a>. The only previous woman to win was Diane Dillon, as half of the team of Leo and Diane Dillon, in 1971, over forty years ago.<\/p>\n<p>That imbalance is arguably <em>slightly<\/em> mitigated by the fact that a total of only nineteen people have ever won, in the entire fifty-nine-year history of the award; the same few artists tend to get nominated and win over and over.
