{"id":17009,"date":"2018-02-23T09:24:41","date_gmt":"2018-02-23T17:24:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/?p=17009"},"modified":"2018-02-23T09:24:41","modified_gmt":"2018-02-23T17:24:41","slug":"lois-beckett-on-effective-gun-control-measures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2018\/02\/23\/lois-beckett-on-effective-gun-control-measures\/","title":{"rendered":"Lois Beckett on effective gun control measures"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>I found this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnyc.org\/story\/understanding-what-gun-control-works-and-what-doesnt\">gun-control segment on <cite>The Takeaway<\/cite><\/a> yesterday useful.<\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>Lois Beckett, senior reporter for The Guardian US covering guns and gun violence, discusses a number of different gun control proposals, their viability, what they could accomplish, and how much they may actually address America's problem with gun violence.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>If I understood right, she said that the proposal which seems to have the best intersection of popular support and evidence that it works is a system whereby someone\u2019s gun rights can be <em>temporarily<\/em> taken away by a court if they appear to be a danger to themselves or others. I had never heard of this idea before and it wasn\u2019t clear to me what the evidence was that supported it, but even so, I thought it was an interesting approach.<\/p>\r\n<p>Anyway, I found the report worth listening to.
