I thought, Yeah, that's cute, but whoever actually owns the domain example.com will probably get mad.  And then I thought, Huh, I wonder who does own that domain.<\/p>\n<p>So I wandered over to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.example.com\/\">example.com<\/a>, and was rather surprised at what I found there:<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that the domain names example.com, example.net, and example.org are officially \"reserved for use in documentation and are not available for registration.\"<\/p>\n<p>That's totally cool: simple, elegant, straightforward.  I'm very pleased and impressed with the powers-that-be for coming up with the idea.  In fact, my only complaint about it is that nobody told me about it before.
