(David Moles's \"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.strangehorizons.com\/2003\/20031013\/memory.shtml\">The Memory of Water<\/a>\" was just under 7500 words by our count, but close enough to the boundary to be debatable.  But Rich Horton called it a short story by his count as well.)
