So it occurred to me that what I needed was a shoehorn.

(No advice needed.)

A couple weeks ago, I went to a grocery store, and I happened to notice that there was a Designer Shoe Warehouse store nearby. So I hesitantly went in, and told the person behind the counter, “I’m looking for a shoehorn. Do you sell those here?”

And they said, “We give them away!” And they rummaged behind the counter for a few seconds and handed me a long plastic two-ended shoehorn with the DSW logo on it.

I thanked them and left, and have been using the shoehorn ever since; it makes getting the shoes on much easier/faster. Very pleasing.

I had originally been hoping for a little shoehorn, maybe six or eight inches long; but it turns out that this long one is nicely convenient—less bending/reaching involved.

I later learned that shoehorns are easier to obtain than I had thought; for example, you can get small metal ones for about $5 on Amazon. But still, this was a nice interaction, and a convenient one.

(I’ve never owned a shoehorn before—never felt like I needed one.
