Last time I applied for a job was a few months ago, when a former colleague suggested that I apply for it. I didn\u2019t get that job, but the process of applying for it got me to get my r\u00e9sum\u00e9 in order.<\/p>\n
Afterward, a friend with hiring experience reviewed my r\u00e9sum\u00e9 and made some suggestions for improving it, but I wasn\u2019t ready to engage in a serious job search, so I didn\u2019t make those changes at the time. But a week ago, another friend told me about a job that sounded interesting, so I made the suggested improvements and sent the r\u00e9sum\u00e9 off to that job.<\/p>\n
And now that I have a r\u00e9sum\u00e9 that\u2019s in reasonably good shape, I guess it\u2019s time to start a more serious job search. Today, I changed my LinkedIn settings to indicate that I\u2019m looking for a job, and I went through my list of about two dozen companies that make tools or services that I like, and checked whether they had any openings that seemed relevant to my skills and experience and interests.<\/p>\n
Not many do at the moment, but a couple of them do, and a few more suggest submitting r\u00e9sum\u00e9s even if they don\u2019t have relevant jobs listed.<\/p>\n
So I submitted a r\u00e9sum\u00e9 to one of them that has a tech writer opening, and I\u2019ll probably submit a couple more tomorrow. We\u2019ll see how it goes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
