(Arr!) Time flies; doesn't seem like a year since last time.

Another way of looking at this time of year is that Wednesday, September 22, at 16:29:53 p.m. UTC, will be the autumnal equinox here in the northern hemisphere. (The Stellafane Equinox and Solstice Calculator is useful for this kind of thing, except that there's a timezone-related bug in it if you're using Safari.) I had already concluded that fall had begun, though, because I was cold last night under my thin comforter, and the heater turned on this morning for the first time in months.

Meanwhile, last week was Rosh Hashanah (L'Shana Tova!), and Yom Kippur will begin at sundown this coming Friday, September 24. (Those wikipedia pages could probably use a bit of cleaning up; any of y'all who know something about the High Holy Days and are so inclined might do a little editing there. If nothing else, you could make the capitalization of the transliteration of Hashanah more consistent.) Alas, we at SH have no stories related to the High Holy Days that we could publish at this time of year, but we keep hoping.
