We've had eight so far this morning.

The only even remotely significant change to our guidelines is a tiny subtle one: I'd now like authors, when specifying wordcount at the top of the submission email, to always round up to the next-highest hundred words, rather than just round off to the nearest hundred. We round up when we're paying, so if authors also round up, it'll give us a more accurate impression of the wordcount we'll be paying for.

As always, the wordcount is meant as an approximation, just to give us a rough idea of how long the story is. We re-count words before sending a check and contract anyway.

But if you happen to think of it when submitting, round up.

(It occurs to me that in various meta-entries about this journal lately I never quite mentioned that a lot of the people who read this are authors who submit to us, so I often use the journal as an informal and unofficial way to spread magazine news. For those of y'all who aren't writers, I tend to figure you can just skip those entries.)

Happy new year, all!
