{"id":277,"date":"2002-01-21T17:28:54","date_gmt":"2002-01-22T01:28:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2002\/01\/21\/277.html"},"modified":"2002-01-21T17:28:54","modified_gmt":"2002-01-22T01:28:54","slug":"cele-goldsmith-dies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2002\/01\/21\/cele-goldsmith-dies\/","title":{"rendered":"Cele Goldsmith dies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>According to <cite>Locus,<\/cite> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.locusmag.com\/2002\/News\/News01Log.html#16jan\">Cele Goldsmith Lalli<\/a> died a week ago in a traffic accident. :(  <cite>Locus<\/cite> says: \"As Cele Goldsmith she was editor of <cite>Amazing Stories<\/cite> and <cite>Fantastic<\/cite> from 1958 to 1965.\"  She was one of the first female editors of a major sf magazine&#8212;possibly even the first, I'm not sure&#8212;and by all accounts those magazines thrived under her editorship.  (She published Le&nbsp;Guin's first sf story, I think, among others.)  But she's not well-known; I'd barely heard of her before a WorldCon panel this past September.
