She was also the one who introduced me to the totally brilliant Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind when I found myself in Chicago for a WorldCon, back in '91 or so.)

Anyway, the intro narration for each episode of Banana Desperadoes started out like this, in a Melodramatic Detective-Show Narrator sort of voice:

He was a sophomore. She was a junior. He was male. She was female. He had a pipe. She didn't. But they were both . . . detectives!

I was reminded of this when someone at workshop the other week mentioned Yet Another Cute Web Toy: They Fight Crime! And before I got a chance to go look for it on my own, someone else (unaffiliated) sent me a pointer to it. Sample:

He's an all-American voodoo master criminal who hangs with the wrong crowd. She's a wealthy tempestuous mechanic fleeing from a Satanic cult. They fight crime!

Makes me want to make up a bunch of those of my own. Somehow this and "Library" (mentioned a couple days back) remind me of "What They Did."

In unrelated news, I must abashedly admit that I stretched the truth a little in my entry about Sacajawea dollars; in point of fact, I've never looked at one and said "Hi, Weezie." But the nickname "Weezie" does come to mind sometimes when I see them. But I feel I ought to emphasize that I only ever thought of that nickname because I'd seen it used in several places and had become convinced that it was fairly common.

Meanwhile, Nick notes that he knows people who call the coins "sacs" (which doesn't appeal to me) or "goldies" (which I think I like).

Back at Swarthmore, I wrote for a mystery comedy radio series with the unlikely name Banana Desperadoes.
