You really must take a look at the pictures on the <a href=\"http:\/\/chaos.ph.utexas.edu\/research\/vibrated_cornstarch.htm\">Vibrated shear thickening fluids<\/a> page, and particularly at the astonishing <a href=\"http:\/\/www-unix.ecs.umass.edu\/%7Emford\/images\/cornstarch.wmv\">movie<\/a>.  Be sure to watch all the way to the end of the movie for some amazing Cthulhoid action.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/news.nationalgeographic.com\/news\/2005\/11\/1109_051109_asteroid_tug_2.html\">Nudging asteroids away from Earth using gravity<\/a>.  Like an extremely slow tractor beam.  Sort of.<\/li>\n<li>Turns out <a href=\"http:\/\/people.csail.mit.edu\/rahimi\/helmet\/\">tinfoil helmets<\/a> are themselves a government conspiracy.<\/li>\n<li>No <em>thing<\/em> goes faster than light, but what about <a href=\"http:\/\/physicsweb.org\/articles\/world\/13\/9\/3\">optical pulses<\/a>?  This article reads like it was meant to be a layperson's explanation, except that I can't understand most of it.  But thought it was worth linking to anyway.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov\/whatsnew\/screensaver.html\">Screen saver showing almost-real-time images of the sun<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>A speech written by William Safire in 1969 \"<a href=\"http:\/\/andweshallmarch.typepad.com\/and_we_shall_march\/2005\/10\/move_along_noth.html\">in event of moon disaster<\/a>,\" to be given if the Apollo 11 mission failed.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2005\/TECH\/space\/10\/28\/space.station.reut\/index.html\">International Space Station celebrates 5th anniversary<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.miqel.com\/pure-math-patterns\/visual-math-varieties.html\">Pretty math patterns<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>It looks like a faux segment from <cite>Zoom<\/cite>, but it's really a music video of \"<a href=\"http:\/\/keithschofield.com\/pi\/\">Pi<\/a>,\" by Hard 'n Phirm.  Odd and entertaining.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.archivestowearpantsto.com\/0034_0066\/\">Archives to Wear Pants To<\/a> is very silly.  Note particularly the song <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archivestowearpantsto.com\/tracks\/0052_i_am_the_first_fifty_digits_of_pi.mp3\">I Am the First Fifty Digits of Pi<\/a>, in the May 11 entry.<\/li>\n<li>Weird and kinda creepy <a href=\"http:\/\/cvcl.mit.edu\/gallery.htm\">optical illusions<\/a> from MIT's Computational Visual Cognition Laboratory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Buncha cool stuff here, including some videos and music, on various geeky topics.
