My company tonight is iTunes, and Nanci Griffith just came on.  Her intro (from <cite>One Fair Summer Evening<\/cite>) to \"Love at the Five and Dime\" is, like the song, sweet and evocative. My favorite line from it is when she talks about how Woolworth stores smell: \"like popcorn and chewin' gum rubbed around on the bottom of a leather-soled shoe.\"<\/p>\n<p>Maybe you have to hear it in her Texas accent for full effect, though.<\/p>\n<p>The other best line from that intro is about when she was being driven around London and they came around a corner, \"and by golly there was a Woolworth store.  I wanted them to stop the car and let me out so I could go fill up my suitcase with unnecessary plastic objects.\"<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s nice to have company when working late.
