{"id":400,"date":"2002-04-19T00:08:44","date_gmt":"2002-04-19T07:08:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2002\/04\/19\/400.html"},"modified":"2002-04-19T00:08:44","modified_gmt":"2002-04-19T07:08:44","slug":"very-pleased","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2002\/04\/19\/very-pleased\/","title":{"rendered":"Very pleased"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.conjose.org\/Pubs\/press26.html\">Hugo ballot<\/a> has been released, and I'm very pleased.<\/p>\n<p>No time right now to go into an analysis of any of the categories or numbers, but I will take a moment to note a couple of <cite>SH<\/cite>-related items:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sadly, none of our fiction made it onto the ballot.  Not entirely surprising; as expected, <cite>Asimov's<\/cite> and <cite>Analog<\/cite> heavily dominate the short-fiction nominees.\n<li>Frank Wu, illustrator of \"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.strangehorizons.com\/2001\/20010507\/slugball.shtml\">Slugball<\/a>\" and featured a year ago in our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strangehorizons.com\/2001\/20010402\/gallery\/gallery.shtml\">art gallery<\/a>, is on the ballot in the Best Fan Artist category.  (He asked not to be put in the Pro Artist category.)<\/li>\n<li>Two writers we've published (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.strangehorizons.com\/2002\/20020401\/agent_provocateur.shtml\">Alex Irvine<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strangehorizons.com\/Archive.alt.pl?Dept=all&Stng=by+jo+walton&Sort=chron\">Jo Walton<\/a>) are among the Campbell nominees.<\/li>\n<li>And, um, we were nominated for Best Web Site.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yay, us!<\/p>\n<p>We're in good company, too: the other nominees are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.locusmag.com\/\">Locus Online<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scifi.com\/\">Scifi.com<\/a> (encompassing both <cite>SF Weekly<\/cite> (nonfiction) and <cite>Sci Fiction<\/cite> (fiction); I was wondering whether those would be nominated separately or together), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfsite.com\/\">SF Site<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tangentonline.com\/\">Tangent Online<\/a>, all well-deserving of places on the ballot.  Way cool.<\/p>\n<p>And a relief to be able to announce it publicly.  We found out (about our being on the ballot, I mean) almost a week ago; I was expecting not to be able to say anything about it for another several days.  I heard a rumor it would be announced today, and checked the ConJose site every hour all afternoon; tonight, I checked a couple hours ago, then gave up, figuring there was no chance it would go up tonight.
