Someone at work decided to have a movie night, so he brought in Office Space<\/cite> tonight. I decided to stay and watch it—someone (I forget who) was telling me about it recently, and it sounded like fun.<\/p>\n

And it was. Not deep, and it falls apart somewhat in the second half, but a bunch of very funny bits, and some very sharply-observed character stuff.<\/p>\n

(Even though it's by Mike Judge—I've been actively turned off by the few bits of Beavis & Butthead<\/cite> that I've seen, so I kept my expectations low, but I needn't have worried.)<\/p>\n

The movie made me a little restless—made me want to go do something daring. But my chosen candidate for daring thing to try turned out not to be feasible tonight, alas. Anyway, I figure if I go read some submissions, the feeling will pass.<\/p>\n

Lessee, what else? Oh, here's something: I bought Quicken a couple weeks ago, and then Pocket Quicken to go with it, and so far tentatively like it. The documentation could use some work—there's no real information on how to get started—but once you understand the paradigm (thanks, Kam!), it seems to work fairly well. An odd side effect of having a way to track money, though, is that I now want to go out and spend money, so that I'll have transactions to record. New toy! Must play with it! Ah, geek psychology.<\/p>\n

Another unrelated thing: having a Web presence is good. I got email yesterday from a cousin who I've been out of touch with for (ulp) about ten years now; contacting him has been on my to-do list forever, but of course the longer I delayed the guiltier I felt, and the more embarrassing it would be to re-establish contact. So I'm delighted to have an excuse to get back in touch. Started a response yesterday, hope to finish it tonight. Apparently he happened across my name online. I always used to think that would happen; my name is an unusual one, and I figured old friends doing Web searches would come across my site and drop me a note. But that's only started happening in the last couple years. Be interesting to see if it happens more often as more people go online.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
