{"id":65,"date":"2001-09-29T13:38:59","date_gmt":"2001-09-29T20:38:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2001\/09\/29\/65.html"},"modified":"2001-09-29T13:38:59","modified_gmt":"2001-09-29T20:38:59","slug":"cosmic-beat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2001\/09\/29\/cosmic-beat\/","title":{"rendered":"Cosmic beat"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Have been reading up a bit on pulsars for a story I'm editing, and came across a page for the <a href=\"http:\/\/pulsar.princeton.edu\/pulsar\/multimedia.shtml\">Princeton Pulsar Group<\/a> that contains sound files&#8212;recordings of what it sounds like when you feed a pulsar's radio emissions through a speaker.  The first one in their \"Sounds\" list gives the general idea: sounds like radio static with a click every .7 second.  Kinda interesting.  But the second one on the list (PSR 0833-45) is way cool: the click comes roughly eleven times a second, and it has a great beat.  It sounds like a Gene Kelly tapdance routine.
