But what about the word <i>software?<\/i>  Specifically, in the post-capitalist economy, will the words <i>software<\/i> and <i>hardware<\/i> still be used, or will they become <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/logos\/words\/upper\/O.html\">obsolescisms<\/a>?  My reasoning here is that they derive from the term <i>ware,<\/i> as in <i>wares,<\/i> things you sell; if it's given away for free, is it still a ware?<\/p>\n<p>It turns out there are several meanings for <i>ware,<\/i> and even free [free-as-in-beer, for those who make that distinction] software could fit reasonably comfortably under a couple of them, so it's probably a silly distinction.  Still, I wonder if someday people will think the <i>ware<\/i> part is short for <i>beware.<\/i><\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We all know that software rapidly becomes obsolete.
