There was recently an article in some major local paper (perhaps the Chronicle?)\r\n about the recent trend toward giving human names to animals. I have to admit\r\n that I lean in that direction myself. But I'm curious about what y'all think\r\n about this heffalump-naming issue, so I'm providing a poll. I don't promise\r\n to abide by the results; this is merely an advisory poll.<\/p>\r\n
To make things even more experimental, we'll be using "approval voting" for\r\n this poll. There are situations in which approval voting doesn't work well,\r\n and this may be one such situation, but we'll try it anyway. The way it works\r\n is that you vote for all<\/em> the candidates you'd find acceptable\r\n as winners, which is why the items below are checkboxes rather than radio buttons.<\/p>\r\n A few notes about specific names:<\/p>\r\n Aisling,<\/i> Ashling,<\/i> Dorlisa,<\/i> Dorte,<\/i> and Morpheus<\/i> are all names having to do\r\n with dreams and visions, in various languages.<\/p>\r\n Toney<\/i> is in the sense of "elegant," on the grounds that the heffalump's\r\n large toenails must have been pedicured only at the best establishment.<\/p>\r\n Boxy<\/i> and Cubert,<\/i> again, are because of the cube-shaped cardboard\r\n box that the heffaump arrived in.<\/p>\r\n 'kay, that's all.
