{"id":751,"date":"2002-12-08T17:42:22","date_gmt":"2002-12-09T01:42:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2002\/12\/08\/751.html"},"modified":"2002-12-08T17:42:22","modified_gmt":"2002-12-09T01:42:22","slug":"prepositional-calculus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/jed\/2002\/12\/08\/prepositional-calculus\/","title":{"rendered":"Prepositional calculus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A few years back, someone pointed out to me that something I'd written explained\n  (unintentionally) the difference between the phrases <span class=\"word-as-word\">coming\n  out,<\/span> <span class=\"word-as-word\">going out,<\/span> and <span class=\"word-as-word\">putting\n  out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>More recently, it occurred to me that there are all sorts of interesting stories\n  you could tell if you were trying to teach use of English prepositions to people\n  who already knew about sex. Like <cite>Sesame Street<\/cite> for grownups.
