He and\n  the amazing Charlie Stross co-wrote December's novella at <cite>Sci Fiction,<\/cite> \"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scifi.com\/scifiction\/originals\/originals_archive\/stross-doctorow\/\">Jury\n  Service<\/a>\"; Cory's first novel, <cite>Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom,<\/cite> is\n  coming out shortly; he's got a short-story collection due out later this year,\n  and another novel as well.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of <cite>Sci Fiction,<\/cite> this week's story (\"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scifi.com\/scifiction\/originals\/originals_archive\/beatty\/\">Midnight\n    at the Ichnologist's Ball<\/a>\") is by Greg Beatty! Way cool&#8212;I don't remember\n    whether I knew Greg had sold a story there or not, but if so, I forgot.<\/p>\n<p>Ellen Klages's story \"<a href=\"http:\/\/www249.pair.com\/klages\/tasteofsummer.html\">A\n    Taste of Summer<\/a>,\" originally published in <cite>Black Gate,<\/cite> is\n    about to reach the end of its Nebula eligibility. I think it's charming,\n    like most of Ellen's stories. If any of you are active members of SFWA and\n    think the story is deserving, consider giving it a recommendation.<\/p>\n<p>The remarkable and prolific Jay Lake, who (after making his first pro sale\n  in 2001, and then publishing 16 stories in mostly pro markets in 2002, all\n  this while co-editing <cite>Polyphony<\/cite>) just made his first Campbell-eligible\n  sale, has a whole bunch of stuff online recently, with more to come:<\/p>\n<ul>\n  <li>\"Cletis and the Duct-Tape Spider,\" a 30-part story (about 6000 words total),\n    posted in blog format one 200-word chunk per day; you should start with <a href=\"http:\/\/cletis.blogspot.com\/2002_10_13_cletis_archive.html\">week\n    1<\/a> (reading from the last entry on the page up through the first), and\n    proceed through weeks <a href=\"http:\/\/cletis.blogspot.com\/2002_10_20_cletis_archive.html\">2<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/cletis.blogspot.com\/2002_10_27_cletis_archive.html\">3<\/a>,\n    and <a href=\"http:\/\/cletis.blogspot.com\/2002_11_03_cletis_archive.html\">4<\/a>,\n    ending up at the last set of installments on the <a href=\"http:\/\/cletis.blogspot.com\/\">main\n    page<\/a>. Unfortunately, one of the installments is missing; I'll ask Jay\n    about that.<\/li>\n  <li>\"<a href=\"http:\/\/storyword.blogspot.com\/\">Story Words<\/a>\": another\n    blog-format setup, in which Jay tosses off a mini-piece about the imaginary\n    history and\/or etymology of a real word every day (send him words!)<\/li>\n  <li>\"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.strangehorizons.com\/2002\/20021223\/house.shtml\">Jack's\n      House<\/a>\" at <cite>SH,<\/cite> of course, an excellent and original\n      allegorical story not quite like anything I've seen before<\/li>\n  <li>And coming up in a couple weeks, a 12-part series of short-shorts, to be\n    published once a month.
