\r\n\r\n thursday\r\n [pencil: 3\/11\/65]\r\n\r\nHello\r\n\r\nDiscovered x why I haven't been able to face the thought of\r\nwriting letters...I'm bloody sick of that horrible yellow\r\npaper I've been using. also, the y on this damn typewriter\r\nsticks.\r\n\r\nDaddy, did you ever get the postcard I sent to you in the\r\nhospital? Hope you are at least able to drive by now and can\r\nwiden your leisure a bit\tand that all's progressing\r\nsatisfactorily and so forth.\r\n\r\nglad to hear that Aunt Sara and Uncle Dave are finding\r\nsomething to do that will keep him busy...but what's she\r\ngoing to do without ORT and all of her friends? and whatever\r\nis 'Stelle going to do? Hinting around to stay with you, I\r\nsuppose. Don't weaken!\r\n\r\nLET ME KNOW AS SOON AS LARGE BULKY PACKAGE ARRIVES !\r\n\r\nRachel, the gal from Goddard, is doing quite well. She's\r\nentertaining me at the moment by practicing her guitar, for\r\nwhich thank god in this music-less, fm-radio-less place.\r\nShe's working exclusively with the boys, and having a much\r\nbetter deal than I got, with less dirty work and less\r\nfrustration. Though things are going better for me, too,\r\nsince I realized that if there's something (activity with\r\nthe children, etc) that I want to do, I should do it first\r\nand ask permission later..... tonight, we (Rachel and I)\r\nbaked peanut butter cookies, with Wesson oil instead of\r\nbutter, as we're out of butter and won't get to town till\r\nsaturday. She's from Mt. Holly (NJ) and we know several\r\npeople and many places in common, so have lots to talk\r\nabout.....we're thinking of taking a train trip to the Grand\r\nCanyon next weekend, unless our pal Mrs. Schmidt x comes\r\nthrough on her offer to drive us there.\r\n\r\nI will probably leave here on Friday afternoon Mar. 26, as\r\nwe have a ride to Phoenix or Tucson, and take a train from\r\nthere. For some reason, it seems that I can make better\r\nconnections from Tucson than from here (Winslow) and that\r\nway I can introduce Rachel to my friends in Tucson, so that\r\nif no one comes from Antioch to replace me (which is highly\r\nlikely at the moment) she'll have some place to escape to\r\nwhen Keams Canyon gets unbearable, as it does about every 2\r\nweeks. And I stand a chance of getting a ride to school, if\r\nRhodes comes home for div change. Have to be back there by\r\nMarch 30, which is registration day, so will probably get to\r\nPhila the 2nd weekend in April\r\n\r\nImagine me teaching kids to jump rope (double dutch, to be\r\nexact; the thing with two ropes turning at once) and do\r\nacrobatics...! yup. me. and doing exercises every day, too.\r\nhow about that? not losing any weight, or even\r\nredistributing it significantly, but still trying to get\r\ninto a little better shape. all this is inspired by gettin\r\nthe semi-cheerleaders into shape for a performance in\r\nPhoenix next month. Doing lots of exciting art work, too,\r\nwith the little girls (60 at once) and learning how to do\r\nstring figures (cats cradles) and a little bit of magic....\r\n\r\nIt snowed today for the first time since the beginning of\r\nfebruary... a messy, muddy, warm, rainy snow...reminded me\r\nof the good ol' late-March winters in the Delaware valley,\r\nand that y'all must still be digging out.\r\n\r\nWe've actually been listening to the news lately, for\r\nthe first time\u2003 all quarter, thinking about all the guys I\r\nxxx know who are going to be sent to viet nam if this mess\r\ngoes on, and more that are going to be drafted...shiver. and\r\nthe girls here are actually interested in what's going on in\r\nAlabama, for which I am delighted. so we try to keep them a\r\nlittle x better informed than the newspapers, as we get good\r\nradio reception of Monitor (NBC network) from Los Angeles\r\nand some other places.\r\n\r\nhave to get up early tomorrow, so I think I'd better get to\r\nsleep.
