{"id":15673,"date":"2017-10-27T10:41:04","date_gmt":"2017-10-27T10:41:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/letters\/letters_from_marcy_antiochian_.html"},"modified":"2017-12-17T05:49:43","modified_gmt":"2017-12-17T05:49:43","slug":"letters-from-marcy-antiochian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/marcy\/2017\/10\/27\/letters-from-marcy-antiochian\/","title":{"rendered":"Letters from Marcy: Antiochian update"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>Here\u2019s an update from Marcy from <cite>The Antiochian<\/cite> (apparently Antioch\u2019s alumni-life-updates newsletter) from July 1968.<\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>She is teaching at the Caspar Community School which she and several other residents of the Mendocino area formed this year, and which she says is a &#8220;penniless but thoroughly exciting venture, for children five through eight\u2014no pay but infinite rewards.&#8221; She also writes that she recommends &#8220;...country living to everyone\u2014baking bread, canning, delivering your own child at home are not as fully integrated into the fabled Antioch Experience as they might be.&#8221; Marcy also wonders how many Antioch graduates can &#8220;hang an axe handle, run plumbing lines, fell a tree, bake <b>good<\/b> bread, cook for 30 people, use a treadle sewing machine, dig a well\u2014live in the woods for a week with a knife and matches?
