There are bits of it that I do find very funny, and I think it&#8217;s a well-crafted book in a variety of ways, but boy is it depressing. I mean, if depressing were a high-pitched wind instrument, <I>Bellwether<\/I> would be a fucking fife and drum corps. And the drums, you know, aren&#8217;t bad, they&#8217;ve got that whole martial backbeat going on, and sometimes, if I am searching for something I haven&#8217;t re-read recently and the bath water is running hot, I forget about the fifes and grab the book.
