I pick one up from the library now and then, knowing that if I’m looking for something not very strenuous to read, it’ll fill the bill. So I happened to be by the YA/Teen shelf (as I not infrequently am) and picked up The Wee Free Men.

I was surprised by how much I liked it. It’s a lot less jokey than most of the DiscWorld series, and the villain is genuinely spooky in places. I wouldn’t call any of the characters fleshed-out, but our heroine has what might be called traits rather than shtick.

And, of course, it was mildly entertaining, mildly annoying and not very strenuous.
