Courtesy of my LibraryThing, which makes it easier.\n<p><b>A<\/b> is for <I>Alice in Wonderland<\/I>, which isn&#8217;t too surprising.\n<p><b>B<\/b> is for <I>Beowolf<\/I>, because it&#8217;s becoming culturally hot for no particular reason.\n<p><b>C<\/b> is for <I>Catch-22<\/I>, although it&#8217;s a tough choice, because <I>The Chosen<\/I> and <I>Chicken Soup with Rice<\/I> have each been my Favorite Book, for a time.\n<p><b>D<\/b> is for <I>Dombey and Son<\/I>, because I&#8217;m halfway through rereading it, and it&#8217;s wonderful.\n<p><b>E<\/b> is for <I>The Essential Calvin and Hobbes<\/I>.\n<p><b>F<\/b> is for <I>Fire Watch<\/I>, because for some reason we own two copies.\n<p><b>G<\/b> is for <I>Galileo<\/I>, the Bertolt Brecht play, although I also am very fond of <I>The Garden Party and other plays<\/I> by Vaclav Havel, both of which maintain a certain political vibrancy.\n<p><b>H<\/b> is for <I>Hop on Pop<\/I>, a drastically underrated book, up there with Dr. Seuss&#8217; most magnificent creations.\n<p><b>I<\/b> is for <I>I Am the Messenger<\/I>, which I haven&#8217;t read yet, but which comes very highly recommended.\n<p><b>J<\/b> is for <I>James and the Giant Peach<\/I>. We own two copies of that one, too.\n<p><b>K<\/b> is for <I>Kind Hearts and Coronets<\/I>, the screenplay, which actually isn&#8217;t as good a screenplay as one might think, but since it&#8217;s impossible to read it without recalling the wonderful movie, the experience is up to snuff despite itself.\n<p><b>L<\/b> is for <I>Leave it to Psmith<\/I>, a perfect novel in every way.\n<p><b>M<\/b> is for <I>The Mask of Apollo<\/I>, which is my oldest friend.\n<p><b>N<\/b> is for <I>The Norton Anthology of English Literature<\/I>, because how could it not be?\n<p><b>O<\/b> is for <I>One for the Morning Glory<\/I>, which you really should read.\n<p><b>P<\/b> is for <I>Pirke Avot<\/I>, which doesn&#8217;t so much begin with a P as a <I>pay<\/I>, but I am not doing an <I>aleph<\/I> to <I>tav<\/I>, nor do I have books that start with more than four or five of those letters.\n<p><b>Q<\/b> is for <I>Queen Zixi of Ix<\/I>, because the only other <I>Q<\/I> book I have is <I>Quiddith through the Ages<\/I>.\n<p><b>R<\/b> is for <I>Red Harvest<\/I>, which I once read aloud at story readings, a chapter every other week, was it? Or maybe once a month? No, that couldn&#8217;t have been possible.\n<p><b>S<\/b> is for <I>Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street<\/I>, soon to be a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweeneytoddmovie.com\/\">Major Motion Picture<\/a>, with limited release on December 21 and wide release in ... January 2008. Curse them.\n<p><b>T<\/b> is for <I>The Tale of Two Bad Mice<\/I>, which is actually an odd and disturbing story of domestic violence, and which resolves itself, if it can be said to resolve itself, in a way that is even more disturbing than the rest.\n<p><b>U<\/b> is for <I>Under Milk Wood: A Play for Voices<\/I>, which (a) is a wonderful thing in itself, and (2) was a Happy College Experience for YHB.\n<p><b>V<\/b> is for <I>Vita and Harold<\/I>, of which you have heard me speak.\n<p><b>W<\/b> is for <I>The Wonderful Wizard of Oz<\/I>, because my Perfect Non-Reader loves the Oz books (although not so much the first one).\n<p><b>X<\/b> is for <I>Xenocide<\/I>, because it&#8217;s the only book I own that starts with an <I>X<\/I>.\n<p><b>Y<\/b> is for <I>Yo! Yes?<\/I>, an excellent picture book that is easy to read, charming, and instructive.\n<p><b>Z<\/b> is for <I>Zen Shorts<\/I>, because I don&#8217;t own a copy of <I>The Z was Zapped<\/I>, and isn&#8217;t it good to have Zen Shorts?\n<p>I&#8217;ll add that these aren&#8217;t necessarily the <I>finest<\/I> books that start with those letters, nor even the finest such books that happen to be in the house, but they <I>are<\/I> in the house, and they <I>do<\/I> start with those letters, and that&#8217;s enough for one note.\n<p><I>Tolerabimus quod tolerare debemus<\/I>,<br>-Vardibidian.\n<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just to break up the Book Reports a little, how about an AtoZ?
